2017 X-Series Marselan

Sextant was one of the first to plant Marselan in the United States. It’s a cross-pollination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache in the pursuit of the most desirable qualities between them. Acreage in the scenic vistas of Paso Robles share geographical affinities with the original plantings along the Mediterranean shores of the Languedoc region in France. Raspberries, cherries, pomegranates are in a swirl with red currants and wild strawberries. Cloves, lavender, and hibiscus notes waft keenly on the nose. Deliberate tannins and acidity allow the flavors to cascade smoothly across the palate. The nuanced finish sums up the charming profile, the most desirable qualities having pleasantly come to fruition.

Winemaker Notes
Marselan is another fun cross breed varietal that we source out of our RBZ Vineyard in the El Pomar sub AVA. Being one of the first to plant Marselan in California, we take great pride in this wine each year. After being gently destemmed at the winery, we ferment this lot in stainless steel before pulling free run juice into French Oak barrels where it ages for 18 months.
